RIEL PhD student Vidushi Thusithana won the second place in the poster session at the Restore, Revegetate and Regenerate conference held in Armidale in February 2017. Her poster, “Vegetation recruitment in different aged rehabilitated patches of monsoonal vine forest in the Northern Territory, Australia”, addressed the theme of monitoring, evaluation, reporting and improvement of restoration and revegetation. She studied the regeneration of climax species in rehabilitated and remnant sites at East Point Recreational Reserve, Darwin. The aim is to understand whether rehabilitation using early colonizing species eventually converges on remnant rainforest tree diversity of dry monsoonal rainforest. She reported that climax species regeneration was dispersal limited and the oldest rehabilitated stand, aged 42 years, was yet to achieve the diversity of remnant forest.
