I am a PhD student studying the Alligator Rivers Yellow Chat, an endangered subspecies of bird living on the floodplains of major rivers in and around Kakadu National Park. The Alligator Rivers Yellow Chat, despite its conservation status, has seen precious little dedicated research to establish even its most basic ecological requirements.

This PhD aims to identify the current status of the subspecies, including population size and distribution, prioritise the threats facing the subspecies, examine the effects of fire on Yellow Chat habitat, investigate the phylogeography of the subspecies and work with Traditional Owners and management staff to implement appropriate and effective management strategies to ensure its survival.
