Learning lessons from recent major NT wildfires

The research is to study selected past wildfire events to increase our understanding of recurrent late season wildfire in the NT.  The purpose is to learn from these events to help improve control measures and planning to prevent and mitigate future late season wild fires. The study looks in detail at number recent wildfire events in the NT.  The detail includes mapping the fire progress and looking at the prevalent environmental conditions leading up to and during the event.  Also what fire mitigation or control activity occurred before, during and after the fire.  This is to determine what the risks were and which of those fire prevention measures and suppression efforts that worked well, what possible opportunities were missed and what can be done better.  The research draws on the experience and knowledge of those involved in the fire events.
