Environmental Chemistry and Microbiology

We work on the impacts of metals and nutrients in marine and coastal environments with a particular focus on community level changes in microbes in sediment, water and biota. We are particularly interested in the shellfish and marine sponge microbiome in impacted marine environments. We also have projects in sources and cycling of nitrogen and carbon in the coastal environment using stable isotopes. In all our research we strive to produce high quality scientific outputs that are relevant to the real world – in particular those that address environmental protection compliance and assessment. Our research is funded through external national competitive grants including the Australian Research Council, and through consultancies, most of which have a research component. More details about our consultancy and research projects and people can be found on the following pages.
